Krugman Nobel; social mobility

Paul Krugman wins the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics! Crooked Timber also says Krugman will be in a seminar on Charles Stross -- apparently loves the Merchant Princes books. Tyler Cowen has lots of links about Krugman and his recent work. And K's latest column on the crisis.

Old (2005) news, kind of, but on social mobility:

A careful comparison reveals that the USA and Britain are at the bottom with the lowest social mobility. Norway has the greatest social mobility, followed by Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Germany is around the middle of the two extremes, and Canada was found to be much more mobile than the UK.

Kind of the opposite of the usual land of opportunity myths.
