Daylight Saving Time takes weeks to adjust to.

I'm very much looking forward to daylight savings time being eliminated. It was perhaps a useful concept when many people farmed, but that hasn't been true in my lifetime, and now it's merely a confusing annoyance.

I thought daylight savings time was just extended by nearly a month because it substantially reduces energy consumption?

Then why not just keep it year round.

Looking at the site, they mention:

In the winter, the afternoon Daylight Saving Time advantage is offset by the morning's need for more lighting.

Which only means that there is no advantage for keeping it during the winter. It seems far more sensible to me to keep it during the winter to and not reset clocks at all, especially since having the sun go down around 5:00 PM benefits no one without a serious sunlight allergy.

Extrapolating from this quote, farmers don't like daylight savings in the winter:

"Following the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo, Congress put most of the nation on extended Daylight Saving Time for two years in hopes of saving additional energy. This experiment worked, but Congress did not continue the experiment in 1975 because of opposition -- mostly from the farming states."

Given that less than 5% of the inhabitants of the US now farm, I don't see any reason to particularly care what farmers think about this matter. This decision seems to me to be yet another way in which the vast majority of the US population (who are urbanites and suburbanites) must yield to a very small number of people in matters of convenience.
