I've noticed almost no one I know here seems to spontaneously discuss politics. I grew up a news junkie; that faded in college, but we'd still talk about stuff, like libertarianism with John, and presumably something about current politics. Primary discussion here? Almost none. Not that I bring it up either, but I feel that's because of the atmosphere. Strange.
I tried de-dusting a window fan I've had for six years. I figured a simple electric motor could have dust washed out of it. I was wrong, it broke. And I wasn't able to break open the motor to see what it looked like afterwards. I got a replacement yesterday, fancy $20 one with circular grill rather than $12 replacement with the same rectangular grill. I think it does indeed have more airflow, which is actually a drawback since I use the thing more as a white noise generator, not for airpower.

Date: 2008-06-09 00:31 (UTC)From:I suspect the rarity of political discourse among folks, at least those who share some mutual acquaintance is due to the fact that many of said people have a set of interests that rarely have to intersect with the political world. Since said interests are often unaffected by political discourse, there isn't the usual areas where politics can slide into a discussion.
