I haven't made a local food post in a while, but today was busy.

Turkuaz did not resume the lunch buffet they had in the spring, so I went to Chow Bar instead. $6.50, decent stuff, nothing ecstatic. Fried rice seems pretty good by itself, and I'd add sesame chicken and a tofu dish. The other chickens were okay; I didn't like the beef so much. Not bad, just enh. Hot and sour soup decent. There was also a seafood dish with squid bits and little octopuses -- you know baby corn? about the same size and effect. I didn't have more than a bite or two of that but cephalopod is still a weird taste for me.

Then just now lyceum and I went to Trojan Horse and I had their fish tacos, which seemed pretty good. Not as good as fresh ones on geology field trips in Mexico, but good. Could have used more lemon, perhaps. They came with hot green stuff -- pico de gallo? -- which was really hot, especially when caught in my throat. $5

And Sunday anima had a Roman dinner, which was fairly good, and the mushrooms were great. I usually don't like white button mushrooms, while putting up with Chinese ones and maybe enjoying oyster ones on rare occasions. But she did something to white button mushrooms which had me having thirds. Afterwards I read part of her Roman cookbook, and it described some Trajan's Market which was a 100 foot six story tall supermarket/department store/food mall; the main detail I remember is that the sixth floor was devoted to fishtanks. Right, put the heavy stuff on top... It also said rice was imported as a luxury good, to thicken dishes with, which seems like a bizarre concept to me.
