Gah. New landlord is showing my place. Why didn't I get a chance to renew, first? Because he wants to combine #1 and #2 to make a 3-person unit, and assumed I didn't want that. Feh. He might offer me back units if they become free, which they might not. And I don't think they have the central air. He didn't know *I* have central air. So if I plan to be around next year, I need to find a new place. Or find out that he can't legally do this, but I suspect he can.
CLARIFICATIOn: I may not have been clear; "next year" meant academic. My lease into next August is still good, I'm not being booted out in a few weeks. But I can't be here next September, unless I want to seize a 3-person unit. (Which given my 30 m2 is almost tempting... hush, Ai.)
Of course, Bton's market being Aug-Aug, that needn't mean I have months to postpone the problem. After all, the place is being shown now.
OTOH, I got this place in a June, on a day where I saw 3 other apartments in this area, so maybe it's not such a big deal. Still, feh!
