More obscure gossip about the Change, costuming attracting rowdy teenagers who caused Problems. I'm told Boskone had 1000 people last year, vs. 2900 at Arisia.

A passing child has discovered the word expectoration.

I looked for Kirstein books in the dealers alley, didn't find them. Did get an anthology of Piper's Paratime stores, timely since a panel was on Stross's Merchant Princes, as Amber with economics, and he described his books as a hybrid of Amber and Paratime. "If you hybridize everyone thinks you're original." His New Britain comes from Bonnie Prince Charlie not attacking London and instead simply holding Scotland, so that England loses the 7 Years War and the Hanoverians flee to America. French taxation insanity strangles the Industrial Revolution, or pushes it to New England 100 year later. Some talk of development and infrastructure traps.

Philosophy filks.

Tiny bits of costuming: steampunk girl, girl with cat ears, older woman with cat ears. A filker with a cloak but he doesn't wear it much at the con.

Jewish fantasy panel.

Michael Flynn was doing a panel by himself one the end of the modern age. I walked out when he started talking about Islam taking over Europe. Wasn't the first offense but was the breaking point. Interesting if true was that the word modern is itslef modern, appearing around 1540.

World domination animation. History segment from Pinky and the Brain, "it's educational so we can show it for free under fair use", Invader Zim pilot, Sergeant Frog pilot. High schoolers seemed to be in charge.

Met a woman who liked my green bandanna headcovering. Kept running into each other, never talked properly.

Erica Neely Guest Filker concert. Good. The love song to D&D clerics was my high point.

A filker from Arisia recognized me right away despite the bandanna. Good facial recognition there.

Sunday, came late, walked out of a panel for food, ran into [livejournal.com profile] papersky, hung out for a while, also with a Portal friend of [livejournal.com profile] februaryfour I'd met Saturday. Fun conversation largely about 1491, Squanto, and crop breeding, like the invention of the sheep in southern Sweden. Also the folly of using celibate monks as colonists. Oh, and some restaurant in Brooklyn that's Cambodian/West African. Sounds odd until you realize there's diffusion through the Francosphere. Jo pointed out that the Koreans have had the potato as long as the Irish.

Post-con filk, a couple of email addresses and an invitation, a bit more actual singing by me, and I got to introduce most of them to O Holey Knight, though I couldn't sing it well. Recognizing a Siegling's bag gave its owner confidence to sing a Bujold fic I'd swear I'd heard already even though it seemed to be making its debut. Someone sang Weird Al's Saga Begins, the American Pie found filk, and I recalled the Lodoss AMV to that song. Filk *and* AMVs, could I get more marginal?

Oh god my legs hurt. I can't have symmetrical cancer, right? Got to me running. Either these cheap sneakers period, or not recovering from an hour run-walk I did last week when it was warm. Or both. Ow.

Previous post was typed up in the con hotel lobby. Then I ran to the bus.

I just realized that the introduction dinner I did was Tuesday. Feels rather longer ago but it's been one of those good-busy weeks.

Sunday geek dinner. Tuesday intro dinner. Wednesday SCA dinner, dance, and ice cream. Thursday haircut and dinner with B. Then Boskone for 3 days and nights, plus more geek dinner in a few minutes. And, I forget the exact dates, seeing Brookline apartments, then re-seeing and applying for a Porter Square one. And not getting enough sleep, especially the past two nights, not so much because of the con - T keeps me home by 1 - as discussing Tolkien Shire worldbuilding with Amy to 3 or 4. And getting someone to go see a doctor, then worrying about her when she didn't come back online for a couple of days.

Then there's he friend who wants to talk to me but I literally haven't had the time.

Side note: the three locals I met aren't all that local. Waltham, Arlington, Lexington. Sort of commuter rail or exotic bus accessible.
