Finally called to find a dentist on my insurance, got a next-day appointment, went today, got a free cleaning, apparently have 4 cavities, fillings NOT free. Place doesn't seem as nice as my Bloomington dentist.
Hmm. You know, I'll be in Bloomington around the Wedding long enough to go to the dentist there... Could get a second opinion *and* work by people I like more.
Found a game store in Central Square. First floor is mostly an SF bookstore. Good news for the genre: lots of authors I've never heard of. Bad news: nothing new I really wanted to read. Took notes on a few true ScF books, one with immortals. Lots of paranormal romance Buffy-wannabes on the shelves. Had most of Hodgell too, which is nice. Basement is the games and gaming tables section. Much bigger RPG section than Game Preserve. Lots of nWoD, Exalted 2e and 1e, 10th Anniversary Fudge, GURPS, HERO, Mouse Guard, Weapons of the Gods, Dresden Files. I ended up just buying some graphic novels: Girl Genius 9 and 10, Gunnerkrigg 3, Mushi-shi 1, some new thing.
Ranted on Facebook about how Livejournal has been around since 1999 and isn't perfect but is pretty stable and doesn't jerk around the design and also lets you be a customer instead of the product. And allows permanent links... Dreamwidth's better but most of my friends are still here. Not that my friends seem to be posting much.
I haven't been either but I still read everyday; ironically I was posting less partly for taking LJ more seriously. "Have to make a links post... too lazy... don't care about FB, easier to dump something on it."
Still reading about India. Have scattered notes I mean to dump on you. If anyone's interested.
It occurred to me the other day that population density and size are somewhat independent variables. I do like the diversity and option of the big city, but I've been to tiny Scottish towns, villages almost, that were eminently walkable[1]. Bloomington was... not great, but not terrible, especially if you stayed downtown, and Amy says it supposedly has the best public transit in the country for a town of its size. Which, uh, still isn't that good, but anyway. anime-mechanique says Gainesville FL is about the same population and 4x larger, IIRC.
