Went to Legal Seafood (and learned there's one hiding near Harvard Square.) Expensive, but is indeed quite good and filling.
Had bluefish (not bluefin); see above.
Did (part of) the Freedom Trail. Ok.
Took an Outer Island Harbor Cruise. Fun!
Went to improv comedy in Central. Funny!
Went to Hei La Moon at 12:30pm on a Sunday, rather than at 11:30 or on a weekday. Crowded!
Took the Charles River cruise. Okay. Want a boat with less repetitious narrating and further up the river.
Went to Comedy Studio. Funny! Lots of dead people jokes! "Sun Myung Moon died. His followers were afraid there'd be a mass funeral."
Took the 77 from Harvard Square. Stop's waaay over theeere.
I learned -- made explicit? -- I like crowds up to the point at which they inhibit my movement. I don't mind people-watching those, but having to move through them drives me up the wall and drains my social energy. In Quincy Market even my willingness to window-shop food gets suppressed by "oh god get me out of here". Doesn't help that I hate slow walking. Walking at my normal high speed, okay; standing, meh; slow walking, waah.
The USS Constitution is apparently on the active duty list, and has to sail a mile a year to stay that way. The
Charles River has a set of locks by the harbor, I have yet to find out why. Tide was high, so the locks were lowering us to the river's level. This feels wrong.
Au Bon Pain no longer has lobster rolls. Lots of places in Quincy Market do.
Legal Seafood claims to seek very fresh fish, like the fish caught right before a fishing boat comes back in, as opposed to the earlier caught fish. And to quarantine shellfish 24 hours for parasites. And to mercury-test its fish. "We're a fish company that runs a restaurant.
I realize part of what aggravates me about Massachusetts is that it's well-run up to a point, and so often the point could be further on *easily*. It's kind of like focusing on Israel as a democracy with a major (really major) blemish, as opposed to fucked up hellholes of human rights one can't even think about. Massachusetts isn't Alabama, say; it does a lot of things right in government, but then you get balkanized local politics, artificially debt-ridden MBTA, light rail that doesn't override signals, and such.
