So, I've had various kinds of fruit salad before, but rarely made it. I dunno why, just not on my mental menu of things to do. But I should more, especially for the less exciting fruits.
Current mix is thawed frozen strawberries (and not the highest grade thereof), banana slices, and wedges of a peeled mandarin. It's a really good combination! I dunno why, but they complement each other well. Maybe it's adding acid to the banana, and banana-sweetness to the others... not that mandarins are suffering a lack of sweetness. Plus the texture mix.
Or it was last night. Tonight it's just decent. Maybe that's a reason for not making it all the time, the novelty wears off.
An an unrelated food front, I was out on an a walk, and looking at a Japanese menu two blocks from home, when the skies opened up. FWOOSH, major ton of rain, and no umbrella.
"Okay, I was just looking, but I'll eat at the outside tables under the awning."
"Oh, they're taking the chairs and tables in. Okay, I'll eat inside by the open door."
"Oh, they're closing the door. Fuck this, let's take my chances."
The Maltese??? restaurant next door was not trying to collapse its protected outdoor dining (partly because there were people there), so I scurried over. Both restaurants are on the QR code menu train, and my phone wasn't downloading the menus at all quickly. Fortunately I was sitting by a wall menu, and eventually ordered a 'Mexicana' hamburger -- half pound of beef, bacon, guacamole! It was pretty good. I would have preferred medium rare to medium, but my request failed, and I don't know if they do burgers that way.
It kept raining, so I kept reading _Doctor's Orders_ until there was a break, and I paid and scurried home. Well, stepped carefully home like a penguin, in case of slippery surfaces.
