Arrr! two serendipities
2022-09-19 23:12Early this morning, I read the Wikipedia page on minestrone, out of random curiosity reasons.
Then I had brunch at a Colombian restaurant, ordering whatever their "menu del dia" would turn out to be, which started with something that was basically a minestrone.
Before I got there, Mexico City had an earthquake drill, kind of commemorating two past deadly earthquakes on Sep 19th.
And, while I was eating... there was an actual earthquake. Rather large (7.7) but fortunately off-shore, so just some mild rocking here. It built up gradually, me first going "truck? quake? maybe a quake" until I noticed the potted plants swinging vigorously, plus everyone else moving to the center of the street.
Power and phone went out right away. Internet started going through after 20 minutes, SMS after 27, power and traffic lights took 45 minutes. I was amused to find that my guess for the approximate start time (13:05) was in fact the official start time.
Very bizarre to have a drill followed by a quake.
