Staying in Queens now. I've been in better Airbnb places, but in the spirit of not wallowing in negativity, let's move on.

Grids! I can walk around at random and take different routes and not get lost! Unlike most of Boston area.

And so many businesses. There are clusters, but there are lots along the short blocks, all over. Laundromats and convenience stores and delis and such. Again, not so true in Boston (or Camberville) where squares and rare arterials sequester all activity.

I haven't seen much else yet. Got here late Sunday, and have had to work, or been tired rapidly. I need to be available for Skyping tomorrow too, but hope to start hitting zoos after that.

It hadn't occurred to me that NYC might be known for its zoos.

I live in Queens and can make some recommendations, if you like.

This is an Astoria-heavy list because I live in Astoria, and pretty much off the top of my head.

* Food: Pye Boat Noodle, Sac's Pizza, Cafe Triskell (cash-only), Xi'an Famous Noodles's Flushing location
* Museums: Museum of the Moving Image, Louis Armstrong House Museum (there's an art museum, PS1, that I keep meaning to go to more often - only been there once)
* Unusual aspects of airports: the teensy little hydroplane-centric terminal at LaGuardia which has a WPA mural inside
* Guided meditation: tonight's Mindful Astoria meetup
* Sightseeing nearby: Roosevelt Island, which has awesome views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, and whose southern side features a cool set of ruins. And I keep meaning to go to the Quaker meetinghouse in Flushing since it's an important site in the history of religious freedom in this country.
