lyceum took me to Woodbridge post office, where I was told they had no mail for me, and that I was marked VACANT. Current thought is that my hold card didn't get processed, the mail built up, and the carrier marked me vacant and return-to-sender, so the person who needs to be chewed out is at the downtown post office, but I have a number for the carrier. To be called early in the morning tomorrow. But I'll be up early anyway since the Indy ride I have lined up is at 9:15. Bit early for at 12:45 bus, but the shuttle would have me leaving at 8:45, so still an improvement. Yay for Border's two blocks away.

Did valuable mail get lost? Credit card I paid online anyway, cablemodem bill I can do online though I wasn't planning to, London Reviews of Books are gone, I frankly can't say what all else.

As a sign of leet USPS competence, I did get mail yesterday -- for the house next door.

Did you hear that we in Chicago have the worst mail service in the country? Dunno how that was computed. New postmaster for the city has promised improvement. (ho.)

No, though my mother said that sounds familiar. What we had observed was that I in Bloomington get the London Review of Books something like a week earlier than my mother in Chicago.
