I had lunch buffet at Chow Bar, for the first time in a long time. Decent food for $6.50. But after my first plateful, I'd eaten all the meat and not all the rice, and I went back to get more meat to put on my rice. The employees stopped me, saying that the Health Department didn't let them let me re-use my plate. WTF?

I've had this happen before. Since there's a possibility the food spoons will touch the food already on your plate as you serve the food and then will end up back in the communal stuff, it's a way to spread germs. A bunch of health departments have buffet rules now.

What she said--just get a new plate and bring back the meat to your old one.

There are signs on all the buffets here in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) that say 'please take a new plate for each trip' - I guess the Health Department says they can't risk the chance of you touching your used plate with the serving utensil and back contaminating the food?
