What's really odd about the internet problems is that when LJ can't fully load when I make a post, it defaults to GMT or EST (not sure which) vs. Japan time, which I guess is coming from the time on my laptop.
Anyway, speaking of creepy Japanese porn, I just saw (via a comment on James's thread about the future, hence the serendipity) this 2005 MacLean's article on pedophiles and their patterns. Supposedly an expanded view of them has few really common traits; one of them is interest in Star Wars or Trek, usually Trek. Only half of men who've abused have an actual preference for children. Of those with a preference, 30% were left-handed (normal is 10%), lots have childhood head injuries and below normal IQ. "Just" one-sixth report abuse themselves, though 2/3 of those who prey exclusively on young boys. Of particular relevance is that the link between viewing child porn and molesting actual children seems weak at best; as availability on the Internet has risen, sex crime reports have dropped. Kind of like violent video games and real violence.
