Today was the last day on which I could get an Indiana license without taking the driving test. And I failed! I'd called a taxi at 11, thinking it was Saturday morning, how busy could they be? Well, the Saturday at the end of term, really busy... After 45 minutes and me cold-calling friends for a ride and finding them out of state -- how'd you get to Ohio already? I was at your party last night! -- it came, but it was too late. It was too late when I started calling people -- the DMV stops doing the driving test an hour before they close. If I'd done more research, I could have taken the bus there, and all would be well.
Procrastination is getting old. No, that's bullshit. Procrastination and not getting away with it is getting old.
Serendipitous discoveries, OTOH, never gets old. The bus ride back took me past Books, Crooks, and Spacemen, the SF bookstore I'd thought I'd never see again when they moved from the Farmer's Market area to out west. Also past Joann's and Dragon, not that I care. Getting off the bus early downtown, I saw that the Market cleans up really thoroughly after an hour; the Bloomington Bicycle Club, with signup sheets and possible class; someone's moving sale, which netted 4 CDs for $12; and Wonderlab, which is now open on days which aren't Monday, and has a little garden. Also present were a bunch of little girls who if I heard correctly were playing "Mommy is dead". I did see two of them lying down with hands crossed on their chest like corpses in a coffin. Now I want to re-watch the Addams Family Values, which I own -- any takers?
I also read Vogelein: Clockwork Faerie, by Jane Irwin, which is a short graphic novel from the library and now my next recommendation for anima_mecanique.
Now to try Neannie's.
