Stuff on the road
2006-08-16 05:30Hmm, perhaps I can use LJ through links. I can't see all of my text, though. Anyway, I made it to Chicago. Taxi was okay; got in at 1:10, good thing I didn't try for a 1pm bus or anything. Walking over to Megabus it was cool to recognize bits of downtown Indy from Gencon. I passed Borders and got some books for my parents, though not the ones I wanted, plus some A/C and bathroom breaks. Megabus doesn't have an office, just a stop outside the County Building. And they turned out to be late, due to a flat. They'd been late before, other travellers said. We were told 60-90 miinutes late, I went for food, and fortunately didn't cut it close because we ended up leaving only 50 minutes late. Paranoia is your friend. THen 3 hours to Chicago. Right side A/C wasn't working and the bus smelled a bit of bathroom or sweet cleanser. Only 13 passengers -- and the odd bit was that all were white, though the driver was black. I guess advertising via Internet word of mouth gets a different demographic than Greyhound.
I also re-confirmed something I'd observed at Gencon last year, and swing dances, and been reminded of at Gencon this year: the water in Indy sucks. Greasy aftertaste or something... switching from Bloomington water to that is like drinking LA water after San Francisco.
