I came home today (after the 9:30am lecture for the class I'm TAing, the goal of which is to get the CS students closer to the hardware, and to give them a mental model of how a program actually executes -- cf. my programming post a while back -- and which is 10% female, and as far as I could tell 90% white. C335, for the CS majors reading this) to find a package from the Graduate School, formally announcing that I'm a PhD candidate (in no particular school!), complete with a graduation-style (thick paper, Gothic font) certificate. Which feels silly, but also feels good. I turned in my CS orals paperwork back in March, and never quite got the cog sci paperwork in yet, so I don't know what administrative mechanisms ground this out today.

What I really want to come home to are my umbrellas.

I suppose being forced to get in the mornings will be good for my life and discipline, but right now I just feel punchy and unmotivated. Time for laundry, and maybe cleaning!

Those umbrellas I mentioned? They came just now. I'd ordered both Big Top and Super Dome, the big sizes for men and women. No obvious difference between them, apart from the more colors available for the Super Dome when I ordered. They don't seem to be as wide as the semi-broken golf umbrella I've had since leaving Pasadena, but they're big. I'd measure them but my tape seems AWOL.

Laundry got done. Not cleaning, unless we redefine cleaning as opening lots of dolphin intelligence web pages to read later, then re-reading some Schlock Mercenary, and eating. Eating involved some allegedly pastured eggs bought at Bloomingfood's, since I didn't make it to the farmer's market this Saturday, on account of staying up till 5am reading Dzur. They've got the vivid orange yolks I've reported in other free range and organic eggs, and the rich yolky taste. Also I managed to make both eggs over-easy, instead of my usual sunny-side-up.

I walked into Alumni Hall and saw tons of new people. It was great! Almost all female, so schenker missed more than lyceum. I hope they come back. And I wish the club would offer some intermediate lindy hop lessons; I like my east coast repertoire, but my lindy feels deficient. Outside turn, inside turn, Texas tommy, a few interruptions of the swingout, and that's it.

Now I've got the dancing in hiking boots blues.
