I came home today (after the 9:30am lecture for the class I'm TAing, the goal of which is to get the CS students closer to the hardware, and to give them a mental model of how a program actually executes -- cf. my programming post a while back -- and which is 10% female, and as far as I could tell 90% white. C335, for the CS majors reading this) to find a package from the Graduate School, formally announcing that I'm a PhD candidate (in no particular school!), complete with a graduation-style (thick paper, Gothic font) certificate. Which feels silly, but also feels good. I turned in my CS orals paperwork back in March, and never quite got the cog sci paperwork in yet, so I don't know what administrative mechanisms ground this out today.
What I really want to come home to are my umbrellas.
I suppose being forced to get in the mornings will be good for my life and discipline, but right now I just feel punchy and unmotivated. Time for laundry, and maybe cleaning!
