A hick gives advice on survivalism. Summary: bored rural teens go everywhere, and isolated roads or smoke are come-hither signals. Isolated just means it's easy to rob the place while you're away, or easy to pick you off Come the Fall. So lonely compound with high-value stash? Not such a good idea, compared to buying some land on the edge of an existing rural community and making nice with the neighbors. You'll have people watching your back and be ready to roll into the subsistence lifestyle, rather than waiting for the canned goods to run out.

I went crazy recently with land value tax and basic income reading. Here's just one link, on uniting Greens and Libertarians. Okay, two links: the preface to Libertarians at Sea on Land. Neither link goes into this but a common idea is distributing at least part of the take from land and pollution taxes equally among everyone, and this strikes me as a good way of implementing a stiff carbon tax. High tax, but you get payments to match, and if you use less gas, you profit.
