popcorn experiments
2023-05-27 21:561. Microwaved kernels in a brown paper bag, dry. Result: successful popping, but very dry popcorn.
2. Tossed kernels in oil, then microwaved in brown paper bag. Result: partial popping. Perhaps I chickened out too early, due to a rumored "set the bag on fire" risk. But at any rate, compared to the mature saucepan technique, the popping was more drawn out.
3. Microwaved the remaining kernels in one of my big plastic food containers (the one I use for serving the popcorn with -- the lid makes it nice for tossing with butter.) Result: it took just a few pops to blast the lid off, two out of two times. I gave up and tossed the remaining kernels.
Net result: I'll probably go back to the saucepan.
