A few of these quotes condemn the hoarding of land that is not being put to productive use and prevention of people being able to homestead and make a living. (Jefferson was known to be an agrarian idealist, but I will leave that aside for now.) What then of government "parks"? Isn't the idea of a park reminiscent of royal hunting grounds, which the underfed commoners were not permitted to hunt on? Is it ethical to hoard these huge tracts for aesthetic reasons when unemployment is so high? Can politicians morally support policies that inflate property prices while pretending to support home ownership for the masses? If you're going to quote Jefferson to support your ideas, you should consider what he would think of our current situation. I think he would have condemned the idea of public parks and lands which were not allowed to be developed by enterprising individuals.
Are Governments Exempt Then?
