I have an account, and $8 of credit. I'd try calling someone but I'd probably croak on the phone. Should I bother getting a Skype number? I know at least a couple of you have Skype, how do you tend to use it?
Also, how the hell did western Massachusetts get the 413 area code, when eastern/Boston had 617? I'm sure a jillion more people live in/around Boston.

Date: 2010-10-08 20:46 (UTC)From:Actually, after trying to call someone just now, I realized another application for travelers like me: being recognizable on their phone, and providing a number they can call back cheaply. Without one but using Skype, I assume I showed up as random number not returnable. And while I have a UK cell number, using it for US people would be expensive for all concerned. Especially me, since I'm actually in France...
People talk about how advanced the cell phone market in Europe is, but I haven't noticed that it's particularly well integrated, e.g. being able to move around with your number and use it and not pay out the wazoo.
