A. read my post and said Spain's an hour ahead too. She's right! It should be on English time, not French time. In turn Portugal is on English time, but is a bit to the west of that time zone. On looking more carefully, Argentina and Uruguay are also one hour ahead of their geographical zone. Seems a common pattern to Iberian cultures.
Hmm, come to think of it, France should be on English time too; instead there's one big oversized European time zone. Algeria's in it too. Meanwhile Iceland's on English time. So's Ireland but that makes more sense given proximity to England and past history.
