and yet, we voted all the republicans out of congress this past time because we dislike the religious right.
i don't think these news companies have the most accurate sense of who their audience *is*, and they're going to suffer for it eventually (or more likely, they'll change their tone to suit the new group, without a backward look... but whatever).

so i guess this is where you get the defensive athiests from, anyway. it was never an issue back home... hard to believe that people out there say things like this. when the prayer in school thing came up, i was still 'in school'... and our general consenus was that we couldn't see why everyone was making a fuss. no one prayed in school as it was. no one really payed any attention to the 'in god' in the pledge of allegance... hell, we didn't pay any attention to any of the other parts of it either. it was clear to us that the whole damn collection of school rituals were stupid, and we were never sure why people were arguing so violently for one flavor of stupid over another.

true freedeom and community acceptance comes from a nice, healthy sense of apathy, I think (smiles). whenever a group feels too strongly about something, they polarize the people around them and create conflict and discomfort that could be avoided if no one really cared in the first place (ie, if no one really cared whether you were an athiest or a christian or a jew or a muslim, a lot of people could continue their lives in relative peace). they say our generation is apathetic, and i think they're right. that's one of our strengths, and one of the sources of america's stability. people should only leave their video games and internet long enough to make a fuss when there's something seriously worth making a fuss about (like, for instance, voting away the religioius right, or trying to mitigate the damage done to the environment).

I think the worst part of all this is the, "I would rather there be some morality in schools." Religion != Morality--moral absolutism might very well be a primary cause of amorality. Well I would rather there be critical thinking skills taught in school...
