A friend asked if I had a published itinerary; no, so I'll make this pinned post. Let's see if I remember to update it.
By Sep 2018, I decided to take more advantage of my then-boss's openness to "working vacations", doing more than spending 5 weeks in LA for Xmas. Past experience told me that I don't mind and kind of like moving around if it's not too frequent (like every week). Calculations told me it was a bit cheaper to just live in Airbnb all the time than have a Boston room I didn't use half the time. So I started. Boss did still want me in the office a fair bit of the time, so I defaulted to "3 weeks out, 4 weeks in".
Boston, NYC, Boston, Montreal, Boston, LA, Boston, DC.
This takes us to March 2019, when my startup went the way of startups, first "upgrading to the home office" (my snark for not paying for the downtown office) and then just laying us off. Here we see the consequence of my housing decision: I had no residential reason to go back to Boston, and enough savings to just travel for a while.

I then contemplated going abroad, weighing Spain and Japan. Japan was cheaper and easier to get to from SF, especially after finding a non-stop to Osaka, where W lived. Off I went! I'd originally planned 2 months, a week in Hong Kong, and back to the US. But as the time came, I didn't really want to leave, and Hong Kong was looking inhospitable, so I stayed another month. Which given August weather in Japan, may have been a mistake.
Japan June-Sep 2019.
Friends in Australia had long urged me to visit, and I realized I was now halfway there, making the flight less obnoxious.
Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne. Sep-Nov 2019.
Then back to the US, compelled by an expiring passport, but Hawaii was literally right on the way, so I stopped in Honolulu for a couple weeks to have a shorter flight. Then PANDEMIC.
Resumed travel in June 2021:
SFBA, Montreal, Quebec City, Montreal (briefly), Toronto, Vancouver (soon).
I'm still legally domiciled in Massachusetts -- bank, virtual mailbox, taxes -- but haven't been physically there since Feb 2019.
Vancouver: Dec 2021-June 2022, drawn out due to pandemic.
Mexico City.
