I just went to my local Japanese grocer. Many of the customers still masked, in various varieties -- more the Asians clustered around the fish counter than the whites I saw leaving as I entered. All of the staff masked. But...
The staff were all in surgicals. And largely wearing double surgicals -- blue surgical over blue surgical. Whhyyyyy. This does nothing except make it harder to breathe. "Double masking" was supposed to be tight-fitting _cloth_ mask over surgical, to pin the surgical around your face, like a poor man's mask brace.
(There's also a dental thing of surgical over N95, but I think it's to protect the N95 from patient fluids. That's fair.)
(My mask: fit-tested 3M Vflex.)

Occasionally, especially at work where I was in a more subservient role, I would verbally tell people from three metres away that I was going to hold my breath as I went by.)
When I got my second dose of vaccine, there was a guy in the recovery room wearing *three* surgical masks, presumably because he started off double-masking and then the clinic staff were making people put on one of the provided ones no matter what mask they came with. (Neither of the staff members in charge of doing that had ever seen a half-face elastomeric in their lives, and they were very confused when my response to being handed a surgical mask was to put the earloops over my cheek filters and make sure that it hung down over the (cloth-covered, right-angled) exhalation valve: why is *that* part of the respirator *specifically* the part that needs covering? But eventually they let me pass.)
