When I haven't had enough sleep, and try to get more sleep in the morning, sometimes odd things happen. Like not having any clear transitions between waking and sleeping, but finding myself with odd memories. Like this morning, where without ever feeling 'asleep' I found myself with memories of a shootout between flying cars. I have no idea what would have inspired that, but presumably I was dreaming in between!

"I wish I'd gotten back to sleep."
remembers something about Teletubbie milk slaves
"Okay, I must have gone from dreaming to waking without noticing, also WTF."

Virus novelty and severity with reference to covid-19.

Minneapolis abolishing parking requirements city-wide. "Progressives" elsewhere, the gauntlet has been thrown.

BTW, you know the stereotype of US conservative being nostalgic for the 1950s? And people point out that's nostalgia for white male suburban breadwinners, not everyone else. Well, it's also nostalgia for an unprecedented lifestyle created through massive government social engineering: zoning, GI bill, highways. Nothing like the actual traditional development pattern which US conservatives now call liberal socialism.

So, as often happens these days, I woke up after four hours of sleep.  I was tired but not easily falling asleep, so I had my phone play the Madoka soundtrack on shuffle very softly as a relaxation/external focus, this sometimes works.  And it did work this time, I slept a lot more today! (finally!)  But...

The dreams weren't stunningly pleasant, but that's okay, I don't remember them now anyway.  Except: in them, I had an MP3 player, and at some point it was getting annoying, so I'd pause it.  But after while it would start up again, on a new track.  This kept repeating in the dream.  (This also seems familiar, not that I trust deja vu senses when it comes to dreams.)

Then I woke up, and noticed the phone was still playing, of course.  So I'm guessing a weird cycle of "pausing the player" in my dream, and then the real phone starting a new track and my brain noticing the change in sensory input and incorporating that into the dream.

That I got a packet of 200 sheets of blank lined paper from LJ:slow_war. I wondered if he was pranking the military censors by making them look for invisible ink. Then I noticed there was writing scraped in, as if using a totally dry pen leaving lines in the paper. But one word per page. And there was an acrostic message formed by the first letter of each word, too. No, I don't remember either message.

My best guess is that it was provoked by this morning's article on a jihaddist using Caesar-cipher level encryption, rejecting the advice of his own superiors to use AES. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/22/ba_jihadist_trial_sentencing/
and also by receiving a packet of my last 6 months of mail from my Bloomington maildrop yesterday.
