I know that some places have apartments rentable by the week or month. Presumably some of these tend to be furnished, especially the weekly ones. I imagine this is at least somewhat cheaper than a hotel. If I'm planning to travel to a city, especially one not in the US, where do I start looking for these, and how easy is it to secure one?

I've found furnished short-term sublets on craigslist before; I'm in one right now, in fact.

There is a website that lists them, though I always forget the URL - I've seen a couple ads for it. In my experience, it's usually by the month.

If the country you want to go to is Japan, go to Sakura House, it's MUCH cheaper to rent one of their apartments (furnished) for the month than to get a room.
