No, I haven't seen it -- I hardly ever see movies on my own, and the last I saw in a theatre was the Prestige -- but I just read an article on Iran's reaction to it.  Yeah, my own default reaction is to say "join the historically abused crowd and suck it up", but with various LJ friends praising it for the effects, never mind the ahistory, I figured I'd forward an opposing opinion.

well... i think the point that iran is missing is that the vast majority of western suburban movie goers do not in any way associate it with persia.
they associate persia with flying rugs and magic lamps. maybe cats. the whole story is so ancient it's half-myth already... and it's been slanted against the persians for probably the last couple millenia. I don't think italians were pissed at the 'gladiator' movie.
