I really like rye bread. Most of what I'd had in the past year has been a brand reliably on sale at Kroger, $2/loaf. It'd decent. At some point I discovered City Bakery's New York Rye at Bloomingfood's. It's better. But it's also often not available. Like last night, and this morning, and this afternoon -- all part of today's Day Of Seething Rage, which was assuaged by my deciding to try walking over to the Bakery itself, at 511 W. 4th. They had loaves, even offering a choice of sliced or unsliced. Same price; I'm not sure if I should be happy they're getting more profit that way or annoyed they're not cutting a break.
It's good to live downtown.
I also had an almond croissant since I was there ($2); it was okay.

"Unsliced bread: the best thing since sliced bread!"

Date: 2006-07-08 03:02 (UTC)From:Day of Rage: just lots of annoyances and frustrations in a row. I put one of my chairs out on the porch a while back, to read in daylight, and yesterday some people had discovered that and were talking annoyingly. And I didn't let myself get enough sleep. And I woke to find that my new stats run of Metacat had frozen shortly after I'd left Lindley last night. And Bloomingfood's didn't have the bread this morning, or when I went back to check after re-starting Metacat. And as I walked around in the mid-afternoon I felt surrounded by noise, percussive and grinding and 'music' blaring out of cars. Felt under attack. And the comic store guy had no clue about the collections I wanted to order -- I was trying to be good and not just bypass him via the web, but...
It got better after that. It's quieter on 4th west of College, and the Wonderlab garden has grown nice and tall and I sniffed some flowers, and then City Bakery wasn't that far away and actually had the bread. I got twitchy again returning home along 2nd (noise! stink!) but have been okay since. Now I can just be dissatisfied with myself, instead of the whole honking world. Plus my egg sandwich put me into a food coma as it often does so I've got more sleep. And I think I even have a clue as to what inputs make Metacat choke, though I'm still hoping Jim figures it out.
Statistics: a microscope made of numbers, as Rawlins wrote.

rye, oh rye
