Yeah, I'm certainly with you on the showing street names thing.

Ohio has exactly those "blinkers" you describe, now you have me wondering about other states. Back when I first lived there the driving laws handbook thing didn't usefully describe them, at least that I noticed, so I was glad I had [personal profile] mst3kmoxie's local knowledge to draw on. Though, it was fairly crap for being how-to-drive-here except, oddly, for a decent night driving chapter.
